The Venus Flytrap
|
Dionaea Muscipula
One of the few, and certainly the most famous, carnivorous plants, or, as Charles Darwin put it, "Insectivorous." They are very small plants native to North and South Carolina. These plants need heat and high humidity, making it somewhat unsurprising that they were in Williams' Louisiana based play. The plant waits until an insect lands on it and then counts the movements. Once it senses a second movement, it closes, and once it senses a third, it starts digesting. When the jaws of the plan close, they seal air tight. This serves to protect the plant from unwanted bacteria, and to suffocate the bugs. |
