The French Quarter is by far the most famous neighborhood of New Orleans, and the setting of Williams' most famous play, Streetcar Named Desire. Like its name would suggest, it has prevalent french culture, and many native speakers of a French/English creole. It is the cultural hub of New Orleans, and is what most folks think of when they imagine the fun and festive city.

The Garden District, on the other hand, is a very traditional and residential area. Many homes are still referred to by the names of the wealthy families that once lived there. It is a beautiful area, and significantly more wealthy than other parts of New Orleans. Just as its name would suggest, the Garden District is a very green area of the city, with lush gardens scattered around.
