Something Unspoken
Something Unspoken was written as a partner show to Suddenly Last Summer, in Tennessee William's 1958 release of Garden District. It was intended to be performed as a double bill with its partner. The show takes place in Meridian, Louisiana, and focuses on an older spinster awaiting the results of the most recent Daughters of the Confederacy election. Waiting for the results exposes Miss Cornelia Scott's (the spinster's) deep insecurities and fears of rejection. Cornelia processes her fears with her secretary of 15 years, Grace, with whom she has a complex and codependent relationship.
Something Unspoken did not receive the same level of attention that Suddenly Last Summer did, and has mostly been performed either as a double bill with Suddenly Last Summer, or in smaller venues.
